When we first bought our home we did a full renovation of the main floor. We have since renovated the basement with the top floor being the only area untouched. We have no plans to renovate this floor as people like to remind us that children destroy things! This means that I have to work with the flooring, fixtures and finishings that are already there. But that’s okay, I like a challenge!
This powder room was very dull and I felt it needed colour and playfulness to really bring it to life. It all started with that adorable lama print. I found it and had to have it.
My biggest challenge in this room was the tile. The burnt yellow that runs through it is not my favourite. However I thought if I embraced it instead of trying to distract you from it, then just maybe it would all come together. Lucky for me the colours mustard yellow and rust are making a come back. This does not mean you should keep your grandmothers old floral couch (you know the one).
I figured the easiest way to make a quick impact in this room was decals. So I order and received the decals, strapped the baby on and went to town. Eyeballing their placement actually turned out pretty good. The great thing about these peel and stick decals, is if you don’t press too hard you are able to gently remove and reposition them. These alone made a huge difference in the room.
After the decals were up all I needed were some fun decor pieces. I spray painted the existing mirror, added two pink rugs in different shapes and tones and brought in a woven basket for some more texture. This room actually gets a ton of light so I figured a plant would be the perfect piece to finish it off.
